Since its foundation as the Tokyo Academy of Physics in 1881, the Tokyo University of Science has served as an institution for comprehensive study of science and engineering for 124 years. TUS consists of an Undergraduate School made up of 33 departments in eight faculties (Faculty of Science Division I, Faculty of Science Division II, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering Division I, Faculty of Engineering Division II, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology, and School of Management) and a Graduate School offering 27 majors in eight faculties (Faculty of Science, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology, Graduate School of Management, Research Institute for Biological Sciences, and Graduate School of Management of Science and Technology).
University enrollment is in April of each year. Each school year begins in April and ends in March of the following year.

Applications for the Faculty of Science Division I, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering Division I, Faculty of Science and Technology, and School of Management are accepted in October of each year. Persons wishing to enroll should ask for the Application Guidelines from the Admissions Testing Office and then submit the required documents during the application period. Applicants should be aware that all classes in TUS are held in Japanese; therefore, they will be required to have a level of Japanese-language proficiency that allows them to fully participate in classes. For details, please refer to "Application Guidelines for Overseas Students" (in Japanese only). Because the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology does not hold entrance examinations for overseas students, persons wishing to enroll in the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology must take the standard entrance examination.

Persons wishing to apply for enrollment in the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology, Graduate School of Management, and Research Institute for Biological Sciences must contact the instructor they wish to study under or, if such instructor is yet to be decided, the secretary of the desired department before submitting their application.
