Application Eligibility

Graduate School Master's Course

Applicants must fulfill both condition 1 and 2 below, and satisfy at least one of the eligibility requirements (A) through (C).

  • Applicants must not possess Japanese nationality nor be authorized to stay in Japan on a permanent basis.
  • Applicants must have sufficient Japanese-language proficiency necessary to take classes in Japanese, as all classes at the university are given in Japanese.
  • Applicants must have completed 16 years of formal education outside Japan or be expected to complete such education by March 31, 2016.
  • Applicants must be an international Student from a country that does not require more than 16 years of education until graduation from university, as well as satisfy the following condition and reach 22 years of age by March 31, 2016.
    • *Applicants must have conducted research for a considerable period of time as a research student or researcher or in a similar role at a university in Japan or overseas, or an inter-university research institute corporation equivalent research organization, after graduation from university, or are expected to fulfill such qualification by March 31, 2016, and are deemed by the University's Graduate School to possess an academic ability at least equivalent to a graduate of university in Japan. (*Please see the important notice below.)
  • Applicants must have completed 15 years of formal education outside Japan or be expected to complete such education, and be deemed by the university's Graduate School to have completed the required credits with superior grades. (*Please see the important notice below.)

Applicants satisfying the above eligibility requirement (B) or (C) who are applying for the Master's Course are subject to eligibility screening. Therefore, such applicants must be certain to contact the relevant Graduate School in advance via telephone or other means, and to submit all application documents no later than one month before the starting date of the application acceptance period.

<Cautionary statement on Application Eligibility (Graduate School Master's Course)>

Applicants satisfying either of the following conditions may not apply for university entrance as international students. (Such applicants must take the general university entrance examination.)

  • Applicants who have received four years of undergraduate university education in Japan.
  • Applicants living in Japan on “Permanent resident,” “Dependent” or similar visa status.

Graduate School Master's Course (Graduate School of Global Fire Science and Technology)

Applicants must satisfy either of the criteria of A or B in the box below. Those with Japanese citizenship or permanent residency can not apply as overseas students but should apply as general students. (See the application guidelines for general students distributed by enrollment section, Tokyo University of Science.)

  • Those who have completed 16 years of school education or who expect to have done so by March 31, 2016.
  • Overseas students from countries which do not require 16 years of school education to graduate from university, who are deemed by the relevant TUS graduate school to have academic ability equivalent to or greater than Japanese university graduates and who will be at least 22 years of age as of March 31, 2016. (*see note below)

(Note)

Applicants who are filling an enrollment application based on eligibility requirements (B) are required to undergo an eligibility review. Therefore, please be sure to contact the graduate school of Global Fire Science and Technology in advance with any queries you may have then submit all of your application documents no later than one month before the start of the application receipt period.

<Cautionary statement on Application Eligibility (Graduate School Doctoral Course)>

Those to whom any of the following conditions apply are not eligible to become an overseas student at TUS and must instead sit the regular entrance examination.

  • Those who have graduated from a four-year university in Japan
  • Those residing in Japan who have a permanent or family stay visa

*Compulsory subjects taught at the Graduate School of Global Fire Science and Technology are conducted in English and other classes may also be taught in English where necessary so applicants are required to be sufficiently fluent in English as well as basic spoken Japanese ability.

Graduate School Doctoral Course

Applicants must fulfill the condition below, and satisfy at least one of eligibility requirements (A) and (B).

Applicants must not possess Japanese nationality nor be authorized to stay in Japan on a permanent basis.
  • Applicants must have completed or be expected to complete 18 years of formal education and receive their final degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Dentistry, or Veterinary Science outside of Japan by March 31, 2016.
  • Applicants must be recognized as having academic ability equivalent or exceeding that of a person who has received a Master's Degree from the University's Graduate School.(*Please see note below)

(Important notice)

Applicants satisfying the above eligibility requirement (B) who are applying for a Doctoral Course are subject to eligibility screening.Therefore, such applicants must be certain to contact the relevant Graduate School in advance via telephone or other means, and to submit a "Personal History for Qualification of Entrance Examination," "List of Research Achievements with Outline," "Graduation Certificate," and, if the applicant performed graduation research work, his or her "Graduation Thesis (Copy) or Outline of Graduation Thesis" no later than one month before the stating date of the application acceptance period.

Furthermore, applicants are requested to attach the following items when submitting the above-mentioned documents:

  • i.Thesis One reprint or copy(The applicant shall have presented at least one thesis in an authoritative academic journal)
  • ii.Japanese or English translation of thesis (Summarized by the applicant)
  • iii.If the thesis was written by more than one author, one document by the co-author(s) explaining the degree to which the applicant contributed to thesis's writing.

Graduate School Doctoral course (Graduate School of Pharmaceutical, Department of Sciences Pharmaceutical Sciences)

Applicants must fulfill the condition below, and satisfy at least one of the eligibility requirements (A) and (B).

Applicants must not possess Japanese nationality nor be authorized to stay in Japan on a permanent basis.
  • Applicants must have completed or be expected to complete 18 years of formal education and receive their degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Dentistry, or Veterinary Science outside of Japan by March 31, 2016.
  • Applicants must be recognized as having academic ability equivalent or exceeding that of a person who has graduated a university (courses for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Veterinary Science requiring six years of study to complete) from the University's Graduate School, as a result of the independent eligibility screening.(*Please see note below)

Applicants satisfying the above eligibility requirement (B) who are applying for a Doctoral Course are subject to eligibility screening.Therefore, such applicants must be certain to contact the relevant Graduate School in advance via telephone or other means, and to submit a "Personal History for Qualification of Entrance Examination," "List of Research Achievements with Outline," "Graduation Certificate," and, if the applicant performed graduation research work, his or her "Graduation Thesis (Copy) or Outline of Graduation Thesis" no later than one month before the stating date of the application acceptance period.
