Introduction

Education and Research on the Theories and Techniques of Practical Management from a New Perspective That Exceeds the Framework of Arts and Sciences

The basic philosophy of the School of Management is to make use of the Tokyo University of Science's extensive system of knowledge and to actively use quantitative and empirical approaches based on this knowledge of science and engineering in research and to educate students on the theories and techniques of management from a new perspective outside of the framework of arts and sciences, as well as to develop education emphasizing practical theories and techniques. The educational objective of the school is not to simply accumulate knowledge, but to develop capable human resources who are independent and autonomous, who can discover various problems in management on their own, analyze them, and formulate appropriate solutions for these problems. This educational philosophy is feasible through thorough discussion of research results based on scientific knowledge with advisers and establishing opportunities for providing presentations. "Graduation research" lies at the core of this educational mechanism and enables this objective to be realized. This refers to discovering problems, gathering data, and formulating solutions, as well as making presentations to a disclosure screening commission and undergoing a review and evaluation. Through these processes, students will learn to appreciate management.

Clarify Management Phenomena through Mathematical and Quantitative Methods, Cultivate Scientific Cognitive Capabilities to See the Essence of Problems

As the management environment continues to become increasingly harsh, there are higher expectations for human resources with comprehensive knowledge, creative mental capacity, and social adaptivity. The largest attribute of this school is its efforts to produce these human resources through exploring business administration based on mathematical and quantitative approaches. In order to construct a mathematical model, it is necessary to clarify the structure of problems and accurately determine the relevancy of things in shifts through time and cross-section analysis. In addition, the model obtained as a result of this must also be verified as to whether it is adequate as a management phenomenon. Through this kind of process, a scientific cognitive capability that can be useful in any sector after graduation is cultivated. In particular, by making graduation research necessary, creative abilities where the knowledge learned over the four-year period is integrated and disseminated is cultivated, and at the same time, large contributions are made to the building of outlooks on life and career awareness, through exchanges with faculty, graduate students, and older students.
