Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Faculty Introduction
For over 40 years following its establishment in 1960, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences provided educational and research opportunities at TUS's Kagurazaka Campus in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo. In April 2003, the faculty relocated to a campus in Noda City, Chiba Prefecture, to allow for more focused exploration of the frontiers of biopharmaceutical science. The bioresearch park thus established is designed to provide a base for research in bioscience and the medical sciences through integrated collaboration with various departments in the life sciences, including the Department of Applied Biological Science in the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Department of Biological Science and Technology in the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology.

The Noda Campus features a spacious natural setting for its classroom buildings, library, grounds, seminar building and extensive research facilities.

Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences
The goal of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Tokyo University of Science is to develop capable pharmacists and scientists keenly aware of their responsibilities as medical practitioners. We pursue this goal in accordance with the university's basic approach to education: imparting a broad base of knowledge while nurturing individual achievement. Relocated to the Noda Campus in April 2003, the faculty is developing an advanced system for education and research that focuses on genomic drug development, from initial research onward. In addition to pre-existing campus facilities (Research Institute for Biological Sciences, Information Media Center, Frontier Research Center for Computational Sciences, and Research Center for Nanoscience Technology), we have established new facilities at the Noda Campus that include the Genome and Drug Research Center, Research Center for Pharmacoinformatics, Center for Analytical Science, Education and Research Center for Clinical Pharmacology, and Research Center for DDS (Drug Delivery Systems). We are currently promoting education and research in four main areas (life sciences, drug discovery, medical science, and environmental health fields) through integrated, collaborative research.

We in the newly established Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences view science as a means of protecting human life and health. We base this view on the concept of "pharmacoinformatics" (comprehensive information on the effects of drugs), which has emerged from the integration and synthesis of bioinformatics and chemoinformatics. The ultimate goal of this endeavor is to fuse information science with pharmacology.

Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmaceutical Technochemistry
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has established two courses: a six-year Pharmacy course that aims to develop high-quality pharmacists possessing abundant compassion and scholarly ambition based on the concept of "pharmacoinformatics"; and a four year Medicinal and Life Science course that fosters the pharmaceutical reseashers who will support cutting-edge medical care.
