Introduction

In addition to thorough education on basic subjects such as biology, chemistry and physics, the Department of Medicinal and Life Science formulates basic grounds for medicinal and life science complemented by information science, such as IT and statistics/stochastics. Afterwards, students take subjects that are directly linked to the development of drugs, such as genome science, synthetic chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, etc. Through these educational and research activities, the goal of the department is to cultivate pharmaceutical researchers (medicinal personnel) who, with advanced, specialized knowledge and techniques based on the foundation of life science, can stand on unwavering life ethics to contribute to maintaining the health of human beings and conquering disease. Research in this department is diverse, and opportunities for the following kinds of interdisciplinary subjects are provided.

  • Clarification of the roles of molecular medicine and in vivo substances in homeostasis
  • Synthetic chemistry and analytical science of molecular medicine
  • Physics that links molecular medicine and life phenomena
  • Pharmacology related to diseases and drug action
  • Environmental science relating to environmental factors and their effect on the human body
  • Information science that integrates all of the above
